Cuppa with Uncle Herb Wharton - Karen Tunny

Earlier this week Uncle Herb Wharton visited QCAN to talk with Debra Bennet McLean (Manager Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts and Cultural Development) and Amanda Hayman (Trainee) about his upcoming trip to Great Britan and France where he will be promoting his latest books Kings with Empty Pockets and Imba – I’ll tell you a story.

Whilst in Great Britan Uncle Herb will be paving the way for emerging Queensland Indigenous writers to connect with the literary world at various writers festivals and universities throughout England, Scotland and France. From mid to late August Uncle Herb will be Writer in Residence at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery, London. In September he will be in Lyon, Hamburg and Amsterdam. In October he will be at the Mercer Gallery, Harrowgate for the Songlines Festival. Uncle Herb has been invited by the Hamburg and Lyon Universities, the Aboriginal Museum Amsterdam and the Australian Study Centre in Berlin.

Our staff helped Uncle Herb to upgrade his CV and scan sketches onto a CD to prepare for the trip. Over a cuppa Uncle Herb shared stories about his previous trips to Germany with our new volunteer Eliane Polek and other QCAN staff.
