Expanding the Circle Workshop & Culture Shock Block Party - Amanda Hayman

Debra Bennet McLean (QCAN’s Manager for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs) and Sarah Patrick (SpeakOut’s Indigenous Programs Officer) facilitated a free Murri Music Industry workshop, last Friday at the Qld Performing Arts Centre. The workshop was based on the Yarning Circle process focused on improving the Indigenous Music Industry. A report from the SEQ Murri Music Industry Consultative Group was presented as a result of the 2004 Murri Music Yarning Circle Forum, which was held at the Big Sound Conference. Young Indigenous artists attended as well as special guest, Kev Carmody, renowned musician and cultural activist. This was a Brisbane City Council Black Diamond's event; hosted by QMusic and supported by, SpeakOut, Access Arts and Queensland Community Arts Network, as part of the 2005 Queensland Music Festival. The workshop culminated in a Showcase of local Indigenous Hip Hop artists in the Spiegel Tent. We would like to thank QCAN members who attended and supported this event.
